Rufous-crested Coquette – 02/02/2018

A Rufous-crested Coquette hummingbird was spotted this morning perched above Pipeline Road.  These hummingbirds enjoy the Panamanian summer sun and select high perches near forest clearings for this reason.  This species is regarded as rare in Panama, and this combined with their tiny size and propensity to perch high up in the canopy means that there are few sightings of this beautiful species.
